Student Leadership
Students at Northampton School have the opportunity to be involved in student leadership as soon as they join the school.
House Captain
Each Form group will elect a House Captain annually. Their key role is to raise awareness of forthcoming House events in conjunction with their Form Tutor and the member of staff with oversight for the House programme, to organise teams or entries for future House competitions and to drive pupil participation in and support for those House competitions. It is a key role as points are available in all House competitions for full participation. Form groups with no representation will not be awarded the points for the lowest placed team even though they will finish last!
Form Representative
Each Form group also elects a Form Representative every year, who sits on the Year Council and who represents the student voice. Year council meetings are overseen by the relevant Head of Year.
Ideas and feedback from the Year Council meetings, which take place three times a year, are taken forward and discussed by the school’s Senior Leadership Team with feedback being provided at the next year council meeting.
Senior Student Leadership Team
A Head Boy, Head Girl, Deputy Head Boy and Deputy Head Girl will be elected during Term 4 of Year 10, ready to take up their one year ‘term of office’ from Term 5 of Year 10. There will also be eight student leaders or Heads of House, one from each Form group, elected during the same period.
These twelve students will form the Senior Student Leadership Team and will be expected to be involved in formal school events during the school year such as admissions events, external visits and awards evenings.
